Fiji Chefs wins Silver at Global Chefs Challenge!!

Pacific Oz-Tralasia sponsored Fiji Chefs Team competed against the rest of the Pacific Nations for the Global Chefs Challenge in Auckland last week. Fiji Chefs were represented by Chef Abhinesh Sharma – Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa and Rohit Singh – Castaway Island Resort and they competed for the World Chefs accredited Global Chef Challenge and Global Junior Chef Challenge respectively. They both won silver medals in their categories plus got a bronze medal on the overall points tally. This competition had New Zealand, Guam, Vanuatu, Fiji and Australia with the latter taking the top honors. They will represent the Pacific Rim in the Global Finals in Greece next year.

Whilst the competition against bigger Nations is always tough, our team displayed few amazing dishes. Both the boys were highly commended by all judges and I can very proudly say these young Fijian chefs were not just a number out there but gave the winning team a good run for their money. Fiji was on top three with a slight points difference that separated each teams; said Fiji Chefs President Shailesh Naidu as he was also one of the judges at this competition.

Naidu also passed a sincere gratitude Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa and Castaway Island Resort for their great support plus Pacific Oz-Tralasia for again sponsoring our National Chefs Team. It would have been very hard to put a National team together and I would like to sincerely Thank each one of them for all their support. I hope Fiji Chefs can get similar support from the tourism sectors so we can do more international events resulting in a lot more of our upcoming Fijian Chefs acquire that much needed exposure and showcase Fiji also as a food destination.





‘Chefs with A cause’ by Fiji Chefs…


With a slogan as ‘Culinary Passion for the Pacific’ Fiji Chefs Association demonstrated that by a fund raising dinner in aid for Vanuatu flood appeal a few months back.

The team were in New Zealand competing for the Global Chefs Challenge when they presented the cheque of $FJD 20,000.00 to the Vanuatu Chefs Association.

This small contribution would assist in rebuilding, equipping catering schools; a kitchen garden initiative and a couple other Vanuatu Chefs projects is what Fiji Chefs President Shailesh Naidu said.

Naidu also took this moment to thank every single patron who made this dinner possible; all the sponsors; Rhum-Ba Denarau Yacht Club for the amazing venue; Fiji Chefs members and very special mention to Chef Darren and Valentin for executing this project seamlessly. These two gentlemen put in immense amount of time and effort into this event and the credit goes to them for a job very well done, said Naidu.

Moffat Fiji Culinary Fare

This is an annual event and is largely the highlight of the culinary calendar. Organized by “Fiji Chefs” the “Moffat Fiji Chefs Salon Culinaire” allows Chefs from a range of establishments across Fiji to come together in one place to challenge each other learn from and inspire one another, to exercise individual creativity and benchmark their skills, to drive their passion and professionalism for the betterment of their culinary career and tourism experiences as a whole.


Pacific Rim Challenge

This is also an annual event. An opportunity for a Fiji National Culinary team sponsored by Pacific Oz Tralasia to travel internationally and compete against the competitive culinary teams of Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Guam.


World Chefs Day

Open to every Chefs Association worldwide, World Chefs Day is an opportunity to hold a food related event for charitable or educational purposes highlighting the work of Chefs and our involvement in community and the future of an exciting industry.
