World Chefs President - Fiji Visit

Speech by Mr Davendra Reddy - President of Fiji Chefs Association

Bula Vinaka and good afternoon to you all.

It is indeed an honor to be here this afternoon to welcome with you the honored The World Association of Chefs Societies President Mr. Thomas Gugler to Fiji for the very first time.

Ladies and Gentlemen I applaud the WORLDCHEFS –dedicated to maintaining and improving the culinary standards of global cuisines and thank you all for your presence here this morning.

The World Association of Chefs Societies or WACS in short, is a global network of chefs associations first founded in October 1928 at the Sorbonne in Paris. The venerable Auguste Escoffier was named the first Honorary President. Today, this global body has 110 official member chefs associations that represent 23 million professionals worldwide.

The dynamic 2016 elected German national has played an instrumental role in World Chefs. In his 3 years as Continental Director (Africa & Middle East), he has steered and increased membership by 300% and established numerous chef associations. He also has decades of experience judging in World Chefs competitions globally, certified A category judge and is celebrated for his huge love for the hospitality industry.

Thomas is also a certified Executive Master Chef who has won hundreds of medals and awards as well as tokens of appreciation from all around the globe. He works as the Corporate Director of Kitchens for AFS(Arabian Food Supplies) Naghi Group.

We Fiji Chefs assure you Mr. President, to accomplish goals of maintaining and improving the culinary standards through education, training and professional development of our international membership. As an authority and opinion leader on food, WACS represents a global voice on all issues related to the culinary profession and we all must look forward to the Global Semi‐finals in October and not forgetting the Moffat Salon Culinaire, where our local chefs and baristas will battle it out to see who will cook up the best that will surely describe Fiji’s abundant resources, produce and of course, Fiji’s marvelous and delicious cuisine.

Through such competitions, events, trainings and strategies we aim to raise the overall profile of our food and provide our youngster’s with the opportunities to further showcase their talents thus injecting a little creativity, confidence and Fijian flair will further refresh to our local cuisine.

At this juncture, I take this time to commend the diligent efforts of the Fiji chef’s members and the sponsors in supporting and promoting throughout this passion for the Pacific Destination and imprinting ourselves on the global map of WACS.

I hope that over the years to come you will all actively engage in productive deliberations and valuable interactions and positively firming your interacting and professional prospects. With these words, once again I welcome you to the Fiji Islands Mr. President, and wish you all our most sincere culinary regards from the Fiji.
